Renal cortex. 0.5 µm thick section of material embedded in plastic, stained with toluidine blue. Three kidney renal corpuscles are observed, separated by proximal and distal convoluted tubules, sectioned in different planes. In the two superior renal corpuscles, the sectional plane affected the macula densa of the juxtaglomerular apparatus.

Arthroscopic view of partly torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) due to impingement (compression and friction) from osteophytes (bone spurs) on the femoral condyles surrounding the intercondylar notch (or intercondylar fossa) caused by osteoarthritis of the right knee. The impingement occurs with the knee in extension. The impingement may be surgically treated by a notchplasty where bone spurs are removed and the intercondylar notch enlarged by the use of a burr. The ACL is seen in the center of the image with longitudinal tears and scuffed surface. Bone spurs are seen at the edges of the lateral femoral condyle to the left and the medial femoral condyle to the right. The image was captured with a 30 degrees 4mm arthroscope placed in the intercondylar space with the knee flexed to about 30 degrees.
